The Gordon-like conference call by Europole Mer aims at supporting initiatives by Europole Mer members to organise research conferences based on the Gordon Research Conference model, i.e. “to provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of frontier research where leading investigators from around the globe discuss their latest work and future challenges in a uniquely informal, interactive format.”
The conference topic will be in the field of marine sciences and technologies and the conference will be take place in 2012 in the geographic area of Europole Mer members.
The conference will provide a stimulating forum for leading researchers to explore the frontiers of their field, will bring young scientists together to discuss their current research and build informal networks amongst peers.
This call fits within the general objectives of Europole Mer to organise high level international scientific meetings and to generate new scientific research at the frontiers of marine sciences and technologies.
Proposal format
1)
Title and Topic (1 - 2 lines)

Scientific organisers / proposal leaders (include any available information on organising committee and scientific committee).

Description of conference structure (number of days, plenary / workshops sessions, poster session, etc)
4)
Tentative list of invited speakers
5)
Tentative number of expected participants, tentative dates (in 2012), tentative location.

Tentative budget of conference
7)
Benefit to local scientific community
8)
Expected outcome(s) with respect to the proposed scientific field.
Call budget
Financial support available from Europole Mer is in the order of 40 000 €.
Selection criteria
1)
The topic of the proposed conference is at the scientific frontiers of its research field
2)
Significant high level international involvement (e.g. in organising / scientific committee and invited speakers)
Application and selection process
Submit proposal to severine.thomas@univ-brest.fr by the 28th of September 2011. Proposals will be externally reviewed and selected by the Europole Mer Bureau by November 2011.
